ABSTRACT

The scientific notion of climate change is embedded in a long-term perspective based on measurements going back to former Ice Ages, and climate models making projections into the distant future. Most climate change scenarios are looking as far ahead as 2100, important data from ice sheets go as far back as 130,000 years, and glacial times are counted within millions of years. only by considering a very extended time span is it possible to identify the changes and to determine their pace and nature.
