Slow Versus Fast Changes in Sahelian Land use Systems

In the past few decades Sahelian land systems have been seen as threatened mainly by a rapidly rising population. Especially among policy-makers and NGOs has there been a tendency to take Sahelian field expansion as a given, a tendency which may be due to general narratives assuming that rural land use changes progress linearly and are primarily driven by population growth.
