ABSTRACT

Instituting close reading strategies into classroom instruction can be challenging—both for you and for your students. In your case, you may not yet be comfortable with when, where, and why you want to utilize close reading strategies. For students, they rarely want to re-read a text so the challenge is how to engage them in the text and ensure that each of their readings further their understanding of the content. One of the best ways to make that happen is for you to learn the framework for conducting a close reading lesson and then facilitate your students' exposure to challenging content in a safe, supportive environment as they learn how revisiting text can help them be better readers.
