ABSTRACT

This chapter probes more deeply into the organization of neighborhood associations (NHAs). Perhaps most basically, we use our survey data to investigate what NHAs see as their major purposes. However, the survey data also provides us with a look at other key organizational features such as leadership. For example, who leads neighborhood organizations? Most organizations have a NHA president, but who fills that position? And, how does the executive relate to various committees of residents? These are core questions about NHAs about which little has been known to date, but which our survey is well positioned to illuminate.
