ABSTRACT

The second stage of Bhaskar's philosophy is an intellectual turnabout, enriching his critical realism (CR) through confronting the dialectical tradition of Western philosophy. This is not accidental, as he indicates that his “early books were implicitly dialectical, although they were later dialecticized. The dialectic in the early works was explicitly theorized in Dialectic: The Pulse of Freedom … I was conscious of the necessity to do dialectic … I knew very early that I'd have to get round to dialectics.” 1
