ABSTRACT
Although it is essential for readers to have an understanding of the overall theory in order to be able to place each book section in its proper context, a rigorous presentation of the theoretical principles at this point would not be particularly meaningful. Therefore, this chapter presents the major theoretical points to be addressed in the rest of the book in a more discursive format to aid general comprehension of the theory. A more rigorous presentation of the theory is contained in the Appendix.
