ABSTRACT

In the previous chapters, we identified what we believe to be the most important elements in the person and the situation. We are now able to offer a theory-based model of social events that incorporates specific personality and situational variables into a pattern of interaction at different stages of developing social phenomena. We proceed sequentially across the model presented in the first chapter (Table 1.1) and discuss each major type of event in turn, while recognizing that no real human event proceeds in such a simple way. Real events, of course, compact or expand the stages and cycle through them many times. Given our conceptual and methodological limitations, if we are to begin, we must impose a clear—if arbitrary— scheme.
