Discussion of Holly Levenkron' s "Love (and Hate) With the Proper Stranger"

THE MEDIUM IS THE MESSAGE IN HOLLY'S ARTICLE. HER ACCOUNT OF her analytic work with Ali presents us with Holly's own affectively charged experience of clinical events so that we can interact with it. The method she uses to establish a dialogue with her readers is the same method Holly uses to establish a dialogue with her patient in the treatment setting. The aim in both instances is to optimize a productive intersubjective ex­ change.
