ABSTRACT

As we grow up, many of us receive a sexual “script” from our parents and others that strongly influences our attitudes toward sexuality. Now might be the time to change the script to accommodate your present life and suit the grown man or woman you’ve become. For example, sometimes little girls are taught that sex is bad or little boys are told that masturbation is shameful. These feelings can linger on into adulthood and affect your sex life in negative ways. Take some time to think about your parents’ attitudes toward sex, what they told you, and how you felt during these discussions, or how you felt about the lack of them. Try also to think about conversations you have had with friends, or what you have been taught by your religious upbringing.
