ABSTRACT

Students majoring in psychology need the skills to locate and use scholarly literature. After learning that the American Psychological Association had no guidelines for instruction in literature and information retrieval, Joyce Merriam, Ross LaBaugh, and Nancy Butterfield, professional librarians and members of the Standards Task Force of the New England Bibliographic Instruction Committee, developed guidelines for library instruction in psychology. Their recommendations are useful for psychology programs wishing to improve library instruction.
