ABSTRACT

As psychologists, we are often motivated to collect, analyze, and interpret data because we want to answer an interesting question. I believe this same motive must drive students who are learning applied statistics. This article describes one way instructors can increase their students’ desire to learn by using realistic, rather than artificial, data that the students collect in a simple research project. This project yields data that create an immediate desire to learn statistics based on the students’ fascination with psychology.
