ABSTRACT

Observers can make accurate ratio judgments of the weight of objects by watching others lift them (Runeson & Frykholm, 1981; Bingham, 1987). Runeson & Frykholm (1983) argued that the actors’ movements were lawfully constrained by object weight such that there was a specificational (unique) relationship between actor kinematics and object weight. They argued that this Kinematic Specification of Dynamics (KSD) should be general across many natural dynamical properties. They further hypothesized that accurate weight judgments were based on sensitivity to the information in these kinematics.
