ABSTRACT

A main effect would suggest that the absence of social support is a stressor, so that people who otherwise lived a stress-free existence, but who did not have social support, would experience stress. A few social psychologists provide a source of information. In addition, the fields of community psychology and environmental psychology have recognised its role. The role of power in the work environment has been thoroughly investigated in terms of the processes of leadership, and generally it is concluded that autonomy and participation in decision-making have positive effects on performance, motivation, commitment, satisfaction and health, and are associated with lower levels of perceived stress. In sociology, power has been treated as a resource in the social world, a resource which is differentially distributed across groups and individuals. Evolutionary theory is based on competition for resources as the main explanatory mechanism for the historical development of all animal species.
