ABSTRACT

Tension flow rhythms arise in response to psychological as well as biological needs . However, people do not usually follow the textbook form of rhythmic patterns; personality and emotions shape the way needs are met. Even small infants exhibit individu al differences in the qualities or attributes of tension flow used. One child may eat with gusto and impatience, snapping up even ice cream with abrupt high intensity movements, while another languidly chews with graduality and low intensity. Some children tend to hold a prized toy with a steady, even tension ; others tend to hold the toy teasingly or shyly, making subtle flow adjustments.
