ABSTRACT
When a child is referred for assessment due to behavioral or emotional problems, it is important to remember the purpose for the evaluation. Unlike traditional assessment, behavioral assessment demands that the evaluation be centered around the identification of specific target behaviors in need of remediation. A complete understanding of the behavior requires the identification of the antecedents and consequences surrounding the occurrences of the problem behavior in order to develop effective strategies in designing interventions.
