ABSTRACT
A category of behavior not yet discussed but important in the assessment process is the degree to which a child displays expected levels of self-sufficiency in school and at home. These behaviors encompass self-help skills (eating, dressing, mobility), communication skills, vocational skills, and other behaviors that enable the child to function independent of adult supervision. The category of behavior that defines these types of skills has been referred to as adaptive behavior.
