During measurements of the blood flow in the brain of conscious patients with neurological and psychiatric disorders, we have over the last years made some observations on memory functions that are summarized here. The measurements were carried out for diagnostic purpose with the informed consent of the patients, often in conjunction with cerebral arteriography. Our findings do not form a systematic study of memory mechanisms, because important limitations beset the cerebral blood flow technique that we are using.
