ABSTRACT

Racism is complex and variable, different from situation to situation in how it is expressed, and different for different people in how it is experienced. Any definition of racism can be too simple. But as a beginning, to provide focus to this chapter, we offer the following definition: "Racism is hostile action with the intent to harm, based on the skin color of the intended victim" (Rosenblatt, Karis, & Powell, 1995, p. 2).
