ABSTRACT

The previous chapters have dealt with the most common responses to death: spousal grief, death of the elderly, and parental grief. Other factors impacting the grief response were also considered, such as natural versus unnatural death, suddenness of the death, age of the deceased and of the bereaved, quality of the relationship, and personal characteristics of deceased and bereaved. Approaches to professional intervention may vary depending upon these variables. However, there are some principles that apply when someone seeks help with grief problems or other types of concerns.
