ABSTRACT
The challenge of treating the crack-cocaine smoker cannot be appreciated unless diagnoses of the degree of the substance use and of any additional psychopathology have been made. This chapter covers the accurate diagnosis of the degree and severity of cocaine use, the incidence of mood (affective) and personality disorders in cocaine-using populations, and the implications of the incidence of psychopathology for understanding the etiology of addiction.
