ABSTRACT

In an extended case study, Robert L. Polakow and D. L. Peabody reported a successful behavior probation program for a twenty-eight year old woman. This is a suggested reading because the focus on child abuse is especially timely today. This mother’s behavioral probation contract stipulated not only a provision for improving her parenting behavior, but also included one week off probation for every week the program was adhered to. B. R. Burkhart, M. W. Behles, and J. S. Stumphauzer trained probation officers from a juvenile division in six 2-hour, weekly workshops. Robert L. Polakow developed two forms for use in the Los Angeles County Probation Department’s Research and Training Program. The first was a “Reinforcement Survey Schedule for Probation”. The second form developed by Polakow was a “Reinforcement Card.” On it the probation officer can give “credit” for behavior improvement.
