ABSTRACT

Geoffrey Chaucer is considered the father of English literature. His master-work is undoubtedly the Canterbury Tales, a collection of stories told by a variety of pilgrims en route to the holy city of Canterbury in the springtime. One of this group of about thirty is a man called the Pardoner, who sells official pardons for sins from the Church. He is clearly a scoundrel who rides at the end of the group with the Summoner, with whom he may be having a lecherous relationship.
