ABSTRACT

The first major goal of the language program is to teach your child to say about 60 different single words. This vocabulary should include words for naming objects and people, greeting people, and asking for things. For example, words like car, cup, ball, mom, dad, hi, more, please, run, and eat are particularly useful in your child's beginning vocabulary. Your child should be taught to say the words during the teaching sessions and then to use them appropriately at other times during the day. If your child already can say about 60 different single words including two syllable nouns, verbs and adjectives and use them appropriately to name objects or to communicate with people, you should begin this program with the next chapter, entitled “Teaching Two-Word Sentences.” However, it is best to read through this chapter first to become generally familiar with the teaching techniques used in the language training program.
