ABSTRACT
Young children’s phonological productions often differ from the adult standard in interesting and important ways. Sometimes a researcher may not want to assume that the sounds made by a child correspond to any adult forms at all. In such cases, researchers may wish to code the phonological shapes of words or word-like strings.
