ABSTRACT

Few professionals would argue against the importance of providing strong and effective training interventions for children and adolescents with significant deficits in social skills. Thus, social skills training interventions hold a place of prominence in this volume. The screening and assessment process is an important link between identifying a child who may have serious social skills deficits and establishing a suitable intervention plan for remediation. This chapter covers various aspects of social skills assessment, including the purposes of assessment, a comprehensive overview of four direct and objective methods of assessment, a comprehensive multifactored assessment model, and the use of assessment data as a link to intervention.
