ABSTRACT

The first three chapters of this book lay a background foundation for conceptualizing and assessing child and adolescent social skills. The remaining chapters focus exclusively on various aspects of social skills intervention. This chapter provides extensive background on the basics of conducting social skills training interventions with children and adolescents in educational and clinical settings. It really provides the “nuts and bolts” of social skill intervention. Some topics among others covered herein include instructional design principles, group composition and structure questions, defining social skills intervention targets more specifically, a basic technology for outlining and delivering social skills intervention modules, enhancing transfer of training, and comprehensive evaluation of intervention
