ABSTRACT

Chapter 4 focused on the general training of social skills and an accompanying basic model for use in developing and implementing training. This chapter builds on chapter 4 by focusing on specific groups of children who are commonly the target of social skills interventions. This chapter aims to serve as a partial review of the literature on the effectiveness of social skills training with specific groups of children as well as provides practical suggestions for developing social skills interventions for children and adolescents with particular common characteristics of social-emotional behavior. Readers should refer back to chapter 4 for more detailed information on the specific technology of conducting social skills training. The information in chapter 4 applies to any of the specific groups discussed in the present chapter.
