ABSTRACT

Prutting, Epstein, Beckman, Dias, and Gao (1989) made a cogent comment about clinical assessment. They said, “An assessment well done is a treatment half begun” (p. 12). This comment goes directly to the heart of the notion of appropriateness because an assessment that has construct validity (Messick, 1980) as evidenced by continuity with the available cognitive socialization literature with its attendant theoretical perspectives and relevance to an individual's repertoire of skills is indeed an assessment well done and intervention half begun.
