ABSTRACT
Each configuration of features may be thought of as an experiment on the social and physical environment. Each face and body provides an opportunity for natural and sexual selection to increase or decrease the success of the individual conveying that appearance. Success, however, comes in many forms. From an evolutionary perspective, sexual success is the most important, indi cated by genetic fitness (the number of reproducing offspring) and inclusive fitness (the number of reproducing kin).
