ABSTRACT
Three people describe a bird perched on a branch. One person records the song the bird is singing, another estimates the relative size of its body parts, and the third notices the coloring of the feathers. When the three compare notes, they agree that each was referring to the same bird. Similarly, in psychophysics, researchers implicitly understand that the sensory phenomena revealed by local and global psychophysics are the same.
