ABSTRACT

Jeff was having the time of his life. He had just discovered the swimming pool located in his garden apartment complex. Once a day, sometimes twice a day, his mother would take him for a swim. Jeff was one of those children without fears. In the early summer he would crawl to the pool edge, or in the late summer walk to the pool edge, and just keep going. This was his favorite game. It always brought his mother running at top speed out of her lounge chair. They finally resolved the game by confining Jeff’s playing to the area around the children’s pool. By the middle of the summer Jeff would stand on the side of the pool and throw himself in the water. But now his mother would watch with relative calm from the side. She clearly adored and enjoyed her first child.
