ABSTRACT

Ellen was the younger of two children in the family. When we first started visiting with her family, Ellen’s older sister Amy was 2 years old. It took us a while to get to know Ellen because Amy, who was quite talkative, outgoing, and able, was always around. Ellen’s mother would sometimes express concern that Ellen did not get as much time alone as she might need. She also felt that Ellen was developing more slowly than Amy had developed. From our perspective, Ellen was doing just fine, although she may have learned to do things later than her sibling. Both girls were wonderful by any standards, and their language development was quite rapid.
