Division TEACCH (Treatment and Education of Autistic and related Com munications handicapped CHildren) is North Carolina's statewide pro gram serving people with autism, related developmental disorders, and their families. Originally a research project begun in 1964, Division TEACCH was funded as a statewide program in 1972. Since its inception, Division TEACCH has reconceptualized theories about autism, created a world-renowned treatment approach, developed a comprehensive service delivery system, and continues to significantly impact the lives of people with autism. The program provides services to over 3,500 people with autism and their families in North Carolina, while developing cutting-edge

research and administering exemplary training. This chapter describes the evolution of the program, its basic principles and administrative structures, programmatic features, and evidence for its effectiveness and impact.
