ABSTRACT
Analysis of covariance is a technique for removing some of the error var iance associated with characteristics of individual subjects. Removing this same error variance from both the denominator and numerator of the F ratio increases the size of the ratio, making for a more powerful F test. The analysis of covariance is normally used only to remove this source of variability in “between subjects” factors and their error terms, although it can be used for repeated measures factors.
