And it is a rare one. As every newspaper manager knows, trustworthy editors are far scarcer than good reporters and writers. They are harder to find and harder to keep.
Yet, as we have seen, they matter so much. What most often separates weak publications from strong ones is the quality of the editing. Through good editing, the finishing touches get applied and the raw edges get smoothed. Without good editing, the final polishing seldom happens.
