ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on developing arguments and to craft these arguments into written prose. The first task in developing arguments for the conclusion is to construct a set of reasons. Brainstorm comes up with a wide variety of reasons. After developing one or more arguments for the conclusion, then develop overall logical structure for the essay. A logical diagram is an expansion of standard form, that not only shows the relation between premise and conclusion, but the relation between the different arguments that are marshaled to establish the conclusion. The logical diagram provides the basis for the written essay. Incorporate all of the arguments included in the diagram into the essay. Compositional structure for demonstrations include: introduction; body presentation of the main argument and summary restatement of the conclusion. This structure has three basic parts. Two thirds of composition should be devoted to the body, and remaining one third divided more or less equally between the introduction and the summary.
