ABSTRACT

In recent years the technologies used in the alternative health care delivery systems described earlier have made their impact on mental health and substance abuse (MH/SA) treatment. Increased sophistication on the part of employers and insurance carriers, spiralling MH/SA benefit costs, better information gathering, and new treatment approaches have created the dynamics which are profoundly changing practice patterns in mental health. The result has been a wide range of evolving mental health and substance abuse treatment delivery systems and benefit designs.
