ABSTRACT

Muscle mass is mainly determined by muscle fiber number, muscle fiber diameter and muscle fiber type. Different muscle fibers come in different sizes, shapes and contractile protein content. These differences determine both the quantity and quality of meat (Sobolewska et al., 2011). Enhancing meat production involves promoting muscle cell development and muscle fiber structure conversion. Skeletal muscle development and its regulation have been widely studied in recent decades because these processes help in understanding meat production, cell differentiation, molecular regulation, muscle dystrophy and regeneration.
