Criminaljustice,humanservices,andmentalhealthprofessionals arewillingtoofferinterventionservices,butremainunsureasto whatisinthebestinterestsofthecommunity,victim,andoffender. Thisconfusionisfurthermuddledbyunclearinterventionguidelines. Shouldpersonswithaparaphiliacdisorderbetreated,punished,or both?Law,intheUnitedStates,hashistoricallyheldwrongdoersaccountable.However,unlesssocietyispreparedtoincarcerateall thosewhohavecommittedasexualcrimeonanindefinitebasis, treatmentprogramsappeartobemerited.Suchaphilosophydemonstratesaplannedefforttolimitfuturevictimswhilehelpingthose whooffendtochange.
