ABSTRACT
The topic for a panel at a national meeting of experts on drug use was “Why do people take drugs?” The panelists—a psychologist, psychiatrist, general physician, sociologist, and a drug user—were allotted ten minutes each. All the professionals ran overtime, of course. Finally, the moderator asked the user to describe why he took drugs.
