ABSTRACT
Free-standing community psychology programs (FSCPPs) uniquely train psychologists in non-traditional roles suited to address human and social problems. While the missions of these programs are similar, differences exist in execution. The current status of FSCPPs is presented and key aspects of training are discussed to provide insights for program development. Information was gathered from program documents and interviews with program directors and 46students. Curriculum issues surrounding course work, field training, research and promoting a multidisciplinary perspective are discussed, and innovative training approaches are highlighted. Two FSCPPs are specifically profiled. Other issues addressed are program resources and the employment of graduates.
