ABSTRACT

She had stood at the door of the nursery and, despite her high anxiety, she entered the room, without her husband's help. She walked around the room. She stood in various places throughout the room She looked at the new pictures she and her husband had hung on the wall. She said that, after about fifteen or twenty minutes in the room, she had become aware that the nursery was not complete. There was no rocking chair. She quickly had her husband move the rocking chair from the living room into the nursery and she found the exact place where it belonged, the place where she was least anxious. And then she sat in the rocking chair, learning again to enjoy the sense of relaxation and confidence that she had learned to acknowledge and appreciate. And she described that her anxiety "just seemed to melt away." Noticing the differences had helped her access her own resources and regain mastery over her anxiety. .
