ABSTRACT

I start off by suggesting to clients that anger is a secondary emotion and I write that at the top of the paper or white board. Then I explain to them that for every event in life, we have a corresponding expectation (some greater than others) and proceed to cite several examples after writing "Events = Expectations." Depending on the age of the client, I will note, for instance, that our daily expectations may include the alann clock going off in the morning, being able to eat breakfast and start the car, meeting our friends at school, being on time for important meetings, appropriate relationships with co-workers, and so on. In addition, I note that we also have expectations for our families.
