ABSTRACT

One of the most challenging aspects of working at a community agency can be doing crisis intervention with runaway adolescents and their families. Perhaps the most difficult facet of crisis intervention is establishing authority (Neuber, 1994). It is often necessary and effective to enter the room and attempt to gain control of the situation by setting rules, making good eye contact, and validating each person (Neuber, 1994). A crisis interventionist is not required to do therapy but to calm the energy level down, figure out the problem, reach a temporary solution, and make a referral for therapy (Neuber, 1994).
