ABSTRACT

Terminating a case is often a very difficult task for both clients and therapists. It can be difficult to know when termination is appropriate. Is it appropriate only after clients have reached their goals? Or do you terminate when clients have the tools they need to reach their goals? Perhaps you terminate when clients say “enough.” In any case, the actual act of terminating is tricky too. How does the therapist go about setting up some kind of closure for the therapeutic relationship that has developed? A fairytale ending would be just perfect, wouldn't it?
