ABSTRACT

Many readers of this book on family therapy techniques will have limited experience in working conjointly with couples. Yet individually oriented as well as novice therapists are frequently presented with opportunities to work with couples in therapy. Often the therapists would like to work with the whole system but elect to work with only one member of the system because they have not been trained in systems theory and are uncertain about their ability to help the family change through systems work (Fenell and Weinhold, 1997). The intervention described here provides one solution to help therapists begin working conjointly with couples.
