ABSTRACT

It seems hardly necessary for me to discuss at length the well-known virtues of Chinese servants. The average servant on entering one's employ promises that the safety of everything under the roof will be "on his body," and he will risk much personally to keep his word. Loyalty is one of the strongest of Chinese characteristics, and in trouble particularly, this quality comes to the fore. https://s3-euw1-ap-pe-df-pch-content-public-p.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/9781315810461/4eab397c-1767-44f7-80e6-ab85f6baf550/content/fig70_B.tif" xmlns:xlink="https://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"/>
