ABSTRACT

In order to look at the basics of relational psychotherapy, we’ll start from the vantage point of your first meeting with a particular client. Let’s say that a week ago this client left you a phone message. A friend had recommended you, she said. You returned her call, and in your brief conversation, she volunteered that she’s having trouble with different things in her life right now, work and relationships. Things aren’t going well, and she thinks she needs someone to talk to. She told you that she hasn’t tried therapy before, and she asked if you could say something about how you work.
