ABSTRACT
W hat does happen when dominicans share residential space with various national Latin American groups? How does ethnic mingle affect the incorporation of Dominicans? My research in Corona, Queens, New York City suggests that the answer to this important question is that in this particular community an additional identity emerges-that of “Latino” or “Hispanic.” Indeed, pan ethnicity affects the incorporation of Dominicans. Different from Washington Heights a basically Dominican neighborhood, in Corona, Dominicans create pan ethnic organizations and develop a pan ethnic discourse to include other Latino groups in the community.
