ABSTRACT

The arts at Hull House were presented as an opportunity for everyone to be creative. There was no thought that we might not be the "right" people for these kinds of programs. It was a very positive appreciation experience. There was no judgment made about one's talent, just exposure and appreciation. I remember the plays, "The Tortoise and the Hare," for example. I was in quite a few plays because I could memorize my lines and I loved to dress up in costumes. We also had singing, folk songs from all over. It was in many ways a model program for youth.
